A Western Counties Photographic Federation accredited judge, Alan Davey, LRPS, from Ivybridge came to assess the Dawlish and Teignmouth camera club members’ printed images. The Open Competition meant there was no set theme, so wide ranges of subjects and styles were on display.

Alan Davey said, “The standard overall was very impressive with several standard workers producing high quality pictures worthy of more experienced photographers”. The competition was clearly very close as it included two joint seconds and two joint firsts, which caused some discussion amongst members.

The competition ran in 4 sections. Colour and black and white pictures were judged separately. Standard members’ work was judged first, followed by images by advanced members.

The awards for standard members’ black and white prints were: Highly Commended, Andrea Carter and Tejas Earle. In Third place was Colin Carter, Second Steve Clark, and new member Leslie Cooper was awarded First place. In the colour section, Highly Commended awards went to Dave Hutton, Ken Redshaw and Steve Clark, while Third place went to Leslie Cooper. Joint Second was awarded to Ken Redshaw and Jane Pitt and joint First places were given to Colin Carter and Jane Pitt.

The experienced members who gained recognition in the black and white category were: Edward Chorlton, Shirley Boulton, Ken Holland, Terry Boulton and Tony Wilson. John Lynn gained a First with a landscape taken in the Lake District.

In the colour section, advanced members who were highly commended were Rosemary Bradley and Ken Bradley. Tony Wilson gained a Third while Ken Holland took both Second and First places.
